Santa Monica Airport Lawsuit Gets Tossed

In a major victory for aviation in the Los Angeles area, the Santa Monica Airport lawsuit was dismissed. In a 17 page ruling, the City of Santa Monica's position was pretty well shot down. What will happen next? In my estimation this case is far from over seeing how much Santa Monica wants to rid itself of the airport. My guess is they will next begin a discussion with regard to the 2015 date as outlined in the 1984 agreement which the FAA says is actually 2023. I would also imagine they could consider closing some of the airport as not all of the property is under the 1948 Instrument of Transfer agreement with the Federal Government.

As I pointed out in this earlier post, there is only one winner in this argument - the lawyers.
